Vancouver International Airport — Exercise SUDDEN IMPACT
Ally supported YVR in a full-scale exercise validating their airport emergency plan following a simulated aircraft incident.
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) is required to regularly validate its comprehensive emergency response plan through realistic exercises, meeting stringent Canadian Aviation Regulations. Maintaining readiness for a major accident requires ongoing coordination between numerous agencies and personnel. The exercise needed to thoroughly test YVR’s ability to activate and manage a large-scale, multi-agency response.
Ally provided planning and facilitation support to YVR Airport Authority for Exercise SUDDEN IMPACT, a full-scale simulation of an aircraft incident on airport property. The exercise involved over 23 agencies and 300 participants, controllers, observers, volunteers, and wranglers. Ally’s role focused on ensuring the exercise met regulatory requirements and provided a robust test of YVR’s emergency procedures.
Exercise SUDDEN IMPACT successfully validated YVR's airport emergency plan and demonstrated effective inter-agency coordination in a complex incident scenario. The exercise strengthened relationships between responding organizations, enhancing overall preparedness for an aviation emergency. Participants gained valuable experience in roles within the Airport Emergency Plan, contributing to increased confidence and operational readiness.
