FortisBC — Emergency Response Activation Plan Tabletop Exercise
Ally facilitated a multi-agency exercise to validate FortisBC’s emergency response plan for a hazardous materials incident.
Transport Canada mandates annual exercises of the FortisBC Emergency Response Assistance Plan, requiring regular validation of interagency coordination. This exercise focused on a complex scenario involving a transportation incident within a municipal boundary. FortisBC sought to strengthen existing relationships and confirm procedural effectiveness with key responder agencies.
Ally designed and facilitated a tabletop exercise simulating an LNG tanker rollover in Prince George, British Columbia. The exercise activated both the Incident Site team and the FortisBC Emergency Operations Centre, allowing for parallel operation and communication testing with representatives from FortisBC, RCMP, Prince George Fire Rescue, Transport Canada, and Environment Canada. Thirty participants engaged in the scenario.
The exercise confirmed robust interagency communication protocols and validated the existing Emergency Response Assistance Plan. Participants enhanced their understanding of roles and responsibilities within a unified command structure, improving overall incident response capability. FortisBC further strengthened its collaborative relationships with critical partners.
