FortisBC Mt Hayes LNG Plant – Full-Scale Exercise
Ally Emergency Management partnered with FortisBC to deliver a challenging full-scale exercise at the Mt Hayes LNG plant, strengthening emergency response capabilities.
FortisBC proactively sought to enhance its existing emergency program by testing responses to complex and atypical scenarios beyond standard operational challenges. The exercise was designed to deliberately increase difficulty, moving past typical ‘problem/solution’ exercises to explore nuanced decision-making under pressure. This included the incorporation of a scenario involving a fatal workplace incident, requiring participants to navigate both emergency response protocols and sensitive employee welfare considerations.
Ally collaborated with FortisBC to develop and facilitate a full-scale exercise involving over 100 personnel at the Mt Hayes LNG plant in Nanaimo, BC. The scenario focused on a simulated operational event demanding activation of the site’s Emergency Response Plan and coordination with external support agencies. Emphasis was placed on realistic conditions and dynamic problem-solving throughout the exercise lifecycle.
The exercise successfully validated FortisBC’s emergency response procedures and identified opportunities to refine inter-agency communication protocols. Participants demonstrated strengthened capabilities in incident command, hazard mitigation, and employee wellbeing support. This engagement reinforced FortisBC's commitment to proactive emergency preparedness and continuous improvement of its safety program.
