YVR Crash On Airport Incident

Full-scale Exercise

Exercise SUDDEN IMPACT, the 2019 Vancouver International Airport (YVR) Full-scale Exercise (FSX) – Crash on Airport, was led by the YVR Airport Authority in coordination with partnered federal, provincial and municipal agencies and organizations.

The aim of the exercise was to meet the CARs regulatory requirement for airport operators to conduct an exercise based on a major aircraft accident at the airport. The exercise met the requirements by notifying and deploying various stakeholders and supporting agencies.

The exercise focused on a simulated aircraft accident on arrival at YVR. Altogether, the exercise involved 23 agencies and more than 300 players, controllers, observers, volunteers and wranglers.
